You can preform this repair by yourself (with right tools like dremel) or you can give it to your local mechanics. The light has to be opened in order to install replacement board and you can do that either by cutting the back of the housing with dremel in indicated place, or by using hot knife to slowly melt the glue between the lens and housing (in order to remove the lens). While doing this do not twist the knife as it will shatter the lens edge. We recommend using dremel and cutting the back of the housing as it is less risky installation path.

Failure of the inner LED strip is a known problem on ageing E92 rear lights. The affected section is located in the inner tail light mounted on the trunk lid, rather than the outer lamp mounted to the rear quarter panel.

When the electronics inside the lamp fail, BMW’s normal replacement route is the complete sealed rear light assembly. If the housing, lens and light guide are still in good condition, replacing the failed electronics provides a much more practical repair.

The Mod-ing E92 tail light LED fix replaces the internal PCB responsible for operating the LED strip and allows the original light assembly to remain on the car.

The BMW E92 rear lighting consists of separate inner and outer lamp sections.

This product is designed for the inner E92 tail lights located on the trunk lid. It is not the replacement PCB for the outer rear lights mounted on the body of the car.

This distinction is important when ordering an E92 LED tail light repair kit, as the inner and outer lamps use different housings and different replacement PCB modules.

If the failed LED strip is on the section of the lamp that moves when you open the trunk, this is the inner trunk-lid tail light covered by this product.

BMW changed the E92 rear lights with the LCI facelift, so it is important to identify which version is fitted to your car before ordering.
