BMW E30 Headlight Replacement – Cold Air Intake Duct Install

The Mod-ing BMW E30 headlight cold air intake installs directly onto the original headlight frame, replacing the headlight unit with an intake duct while retaining the factory mounting points.

Installation is simple and requires only basic hand tools. No permanent modification to the headlight frame is required.

    Step 1 – Separate the Headlight From the Frame

    The headlight is attached to the frame at three adjuster points.

    Using pliers, rotate the clips on the adjuster rods until they release, then carefully push the adjusters out.

    Once all three mounting points are free, remove the headlight from the frame.

    Step 2 – Position the Cold Air Intake

    Place the Mod-ing cold air intake onto the original headlight frame.

    Align the three mounting holes in the intake with the corresponding holes in the frame.

    Make sure the intake sits flat and is correctly positioned before installing the hardware.

    Step 3 – Secure the Intake

    Insert the three screws through the aligned mounting holes.

    Fit the washers and nuts from the opposite side, then tighten all three mounting points evenly.

    Do not fully tighten one fastener before the others. Tightening them gradually helps keep the intake correctly aligned with the frame.

    Once tightened, check that the intake is firmly secured and does not move within the assembly.

    Step 4 – Reinstall the Assembly

    With the cold air intake securely mounted, the complete headlight frame can be installed back into the BMW E30.

    Before finishing, check that:

    • All three mounting screws are secure.
    • The intake sits correctly against the frame.
    • No hardware is loose.
    • The intake opening is unobstructed.
